About Mountain Marker

About Mountain Marker

230+ resorts across 30+ countries. Compare, plan, and book your entire ski trip — built by a skier, for skiers.

Who We Are

Mountain Marker is an independently run ski trip planning platform — not backed by a travel corporation or resort chain. It started as a side project born out of frustration: planning a ski holiday means juggling a dozen tabs for flights, accommodation, transfers, equipment hire, and lift passes. And that's before you've figured out which resort is right for your group. We built Mountain Marker to bring all of that into one place.

Today the platform covers 230+ resorts across 30+ countries. Every resort is scored across 15 categories so you can compare apples to apples — whether you're chasing powder, planning a family trip, or trying to get the most out of your budget. Use our comparison tool to filter and rank resorts by the categories that matter most to you.

Beyond resort profiles, Mountain Marker includes a Trip Planner where groups can organise their entire ski holiday and share plans with friends, integrated booking widgets for flights, accommodation, transfers, and ski hire, lift ticket and piste map links for every resort, airport pages showing which resorts are closest to each hub, Epic and Ikon pass comparisons, a trip cost calculator with shareable estimates, and a blog with ski guides and advice.

Mountain Marker is completely free to use. We're supported by affiliate partnerships with booking providers and by business listings for resorts and tourism boards — never by paywalls or gated content. Our ratings and editorial content are independent of our commercial relationships.

How We Rate Resorts

Every resort on Mountain Marker is scored across 15 categories, each rated on a 1–10 scale. Scores are based on a combination of publicly available resort data, industry reports, historical snowfall records, and traveler feedback aggregated from multiple sources. We update scores at the start of each season.

We don't publish a single overall score — skiing priorities are too personal for that. A family of beginners and a group of off-piste experts have completely different needs from the same mountain. Instead, use our comparison tool to filter and rank resorts by the categories that matter most to you.

Terrain Variety

How diverse the on-piste terrain is — mix of groomed runs, moguls, terrain parks, and topography.

Snow Reliability

Consistency of natural snowfall, altitude, and access to snowmaking across the season.

Lift System

Quality, speed, and coverage of lifts — modern gondolas and express quads score highest.

Family Friendliness

Dedicated kids' areas, gentle beginner slopes, childcare availability, and family pricing.

Après-Ski

Vibrancy of the off-slope scene: bars, live music, nightlife, and the overall social atmosphere.

Off-Piste

Access to ungroomed terrain, backcountry touring routes, and quality of powder skiing.

Beginner Suitability

Quantity and quality of easy runs, progression routes, and how welcoming the resort is to first-timers.

Intermediate Terrain

Breadth of blue and red runs, cruising terrain, and scope for building confidence and mileage.

Advanced Terrain

Challenging black runs, steep couloirs, and technical lines for expert-level skiers.

Value for Money

Overall cost-effectiveness — lift pass prices, accommodation rates, food, and equipment rental.

Accommodation Quality

Range and standard of lodging: ski-in/ski-out access, hotel quality, and chalet options.

Quality and variety of on-mountain restaurants, mountain huts, and village dining.

Accessibility

Proximity to major airports, transfer times, and ease of reaching the resort from the US.

Scenery & Charm

Beauty of the mountain landscape, village character, and the overall aesthetic experience.

Ski School Quality

Availability of English-speaking instructors, lesson options, and reputation of ski schools.

Mountain Marker participates in affiliate marketing programs. We earn a commission when you click through to booking partners (such as accommodation providers, lift pass retailers, and equipment rental services) and make a purchase. This is at no additional cost to you.

In plain terms: some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and complete a booking, Mountain Marker receives a small commission from the partner — the price you pay is identical to booking directly.

We also offer sponsored placement options that allow resorts and tourism boards to appear prominently in our listings. Sponsored placements are always clearly labeled as such. Sponsorship has no influence on resort scores or editorial ratings.

Our ratings and editorial content are independent of our commercial relationships. We do not accept payment to improve a resort's score, write favorable editorial coverage, or suppress negative information. If a resort has a weak après-ski scene, we say so — regardless of whether they advertise with us.

If you have questions about our affiliate relationships or editorial policy, you can reach us at hello@mountainmarker.com.
