About Cerler
Cerler is the highest ski resort in the Spanish Pyrenees and the jewel of the Aragonese mountain skiing scene, a well-developed area above the medieval village of Benasque in the spectacular Benasque Valley that combines 79km of diverse terrain with the best altitude-driven snow reliability of any Spanish resort outside Baqueira-Beret. Its 31 lifts serve terrain that spans from the wide, confidence-building beginner slopes of the Ampriu sector to the challenging steeps and north-facing powder fields of the Cogulla and Liri sectors at the upper mountain, with the dedicated snowpark and ski cross course at the Cota 1900 area adding variety for freestyle enthusiasts. Cerler's location in the central Aragonese Pyrenees places it within the Benasque National Reserve — a landscape of dramatic granite peaks, frozen waterfalls, and ancient shepherd trails that creates a mountain backdrop equal to anything in the western Alps — while the village of Benasque at the valley base has developed an excellent gastronomic scene of Aragonese mountain cuisine, local wines, and traditional tapas culture that rewards an evening away from the resort. For US travelers flying into Barcelona or Madrid, the combination of Cerler's serious skiing with the extraordinary cultural heritage of Aragon makes it one of Europe's most compelling off-the-beaten-track ski holiday choices.
