About Formigal

Formigal is Spain's largest ski resort, a modern purpose-built complex in the Valle de Tena in the Aragonese Pyrenees near the French border, and it is considerably better than most visitors from outside Spain expect. Its 137km of piste across four valleys — Anayet, Sextas, Portalet, and Canal Roya — provide genuine variety for all levels, with the higher slopes above 2,000m offering solid snow reliability by Pyrenean standards. The resort draws primarily a Spanish clientele from Madrid and Zaragoza, which gives it a lively, sociable atmosphere during peak Spanish holiday periods and a refreshingly uncrowded experience at other times. Lift passes are significantly cheaper than equivalent French Alpine resorts, and the mountain gastronomy reflects the seriousness with which Aragón approaches food — mountain restaurants here are far above the European average.
