About Grand Targhee

Grand Targhee is one of the best-kept secrets in American skiing — a small, fiercely independent resort on the western slope of the Teton Range in Wyoming that receives over 500 inches of snowfall per year, making it one of the snowiest ski areas in North America. The resort's 127km of skiable terrain is served by just five lifts, but what it lacks in lift infrastructure it more than compensates for with the quality and consistency of its powder: Grand Targhee's westerly aspect catches Pacific moisture systems head-on, and the mountain regularly records waist-deep powder days when other Wyoming resorts are merely good. The terrain is a mix of wide-open bowls above the treeline and excellent tree skiing lower down, with enough pitch to keep advanced skiers engaged and enough variety for strong intermediates to explore. Cat skiing operations extend the skiable terrain dramatically. The resort base is deliberately small and uncommercialised — a few lodges, a rental shop, a restaurant — and the absence of real estate development preserves an atmosphere of authentic mountain solitude that has vanished from most destination resorts. For US skiers willing to make the drive from Jackson (about 75 minutes via Teton Pass), Grand Targhee offers the deepest, most consistent powder skiing available without a helicopter.
