About Hunter Mountain

Hunter Mountain in the Catskills is the closest major ski area to New York City with lift-served vertical that can sustain a full day of skiing, sitting roughly 2.5 hours from Manhattan and drawing enormous weekend crowds from the metropolitan area throughout winter. Its 320 skiable acres are almost entirely snowmade — natural snowfall in the Catskills is unreliable — and the resort's snowmaking system, one of the most comprehensive in the Northeast, can cover the entire mountain in 72 hours. The terrain is best suited to intermediates and improving beginners, with the steeper Hunter West section providing the greatest challenge available on the mountain. For New Yorkers seeking a first ski experience or a weekend trip without the cost and commitment of a Vermont journey, Hunter is the practical default choice in the region.
