About Las Leñas

Las Leñas is Argentina's most extreme ski resort and one of the world's great destinations for expert and off-piste skiers, a remote high-altitude area at 2,240m in the Mendoza Andes that receives some of the deepest and driest snow in South America. Its 60km of marked terrain belies the resort's true scale — the vast off-piste terrain accessible from the summit at 3,430m extends across multiple valleys and includes enormous couloirs, open powder bowls, and challenging freeride lines that have featured in ski films since the 1990s. Las Leñas is not a resort for families or beginners: the on-piste terrain skews heavily towards intermediate and advanced, the infrastructure is deliberately utilitarian, the location is genuinely remote — 75 minutes from the small airport at Malargüe — and the appeal is almost entirely about the quality of the skiing and the depth of the Andean snowpack. For expert US skiers willing to make the journey, Las Leñas in a good snow year delivers a powder experience that rivals the finest destinations in North America or Japan, at a fraction of the cost.
