About Marmot Basin
Marmot Basin sits within Jasper National Park in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, the only ski resort in Canada's most celebrated mountain national park and the sole ski area on the entire planet where you can ski genuine Rocky Mountain terrain within a UNESCO World Heritage Site's protected wilderness boundaries — with the explicit requirement that the mountain experience never compromises the park's ecological integrity. Its 90km of terrain across 86 runs spans a wide ability range, with the lower mountain's well-groomed intermediate runs and the upper Marmot Bowl's exposed expert terrain at 2,612m delivering very different skiing experiences within the same day depending on weather and ability. Jasper's position in the Northern Rockies means it receives the most reliable and driest snowfall of any Alberta resort, with the park's protected basin topography preserving snow quality longer than the windier terrain of Banff-area resorts. The town of Jasper itself — a genuine Rocky Mountain community rather than a resort village — provides the base with excellent accommodation, superb wildlife viewing (elk on the main street in winter is commonplace), and access to the Icefields Parkway, the most spectacular mountain road in North America, all within 20 minutes of the ski lifts.
