About Palandöken
Palandöken is Turkey's most technically impressive ski resort and the country's best-kept secret for serious skiers, a high-altitude mountain on the outskirts of the eastern Anatolian city of Erzurum that rises to 3,176m and delivers some of the deepest and driest powder snowfall in the entire region — a function of Erzurum's continental climate, extreme altitude, and exposure to moisture from the Black Sea and Caspian weather systems. Its 48km of terrain across multiple sectors spans a greater ability range than Turkey's western resorts, with the Konaklı sector providing solid intermediate cruising and the upper Piste area and off-piste terrain on the exposed eastern faces delivering genuinely challenging skiing that has attracted serious Turkish and Russian freeriders for years. The Dedeman and Polat hotels at the resort base provide ski-in ski-out convenience of a standard competitive with European budget resorts, at prices that make Palandöken arguably the best-value serious ski destination accessible from Europe or the Middle East. Erzurum Airport's regular service from Istanbul puts the mountain within a three-hour door-to-door journey from the Bosphorus, and the city of Erzurum itself — an ancient crossroads of Armenian, Ottoman, and Seljuk civilisations with exceptional historical monuments — rewards a day of cultural exploration alongside the skiing.
