About Pamporovo
Pamporovo is Bulgaria's southern ski resort, set in the forested Rhodope Mountains above the Valley of Roses at a base altitude of 1,450m. Its 25km of largely beginner and intermediate piste are more modest than Borovets to the north, but the resort compensates with exceptional value — lift passes and accommodation run at a fraction of comparable Alpine costs — a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere, and the particular pleasure of skiing through dense Rhodope forest on well-maintained tree-lined runs. The resort suits first-time skiers, families with young children, and budget-conscious intermediate skiers looking for a low-pressure week on snow; experts will quickly exhaust the terrain but could use the resort as a base for exploring the Rhodope region's folk villages and monasteries. Plovdiv, one of Europe's oldest cities, is 80 minutes away and worth a half-day visit.
