About Portillo

Portillo is one of the most legendary ski resorts in the Americas, a single iconic yellow hotel surrounded by dramatic Andean terrain at 2,590m in the Aconcagua Valley, just below the Paso Los Libertadores on the border between Chile and Argentina. Established in 1949 and still owned by the same American family, Portillo has hosted World Cup races, Olympic team training camps, and generations of serious skiers drawn by its extreme terrain, exceptional Andean snowpack, and the rare intimacy of a resort that limits capacity to 450 guests — meaning its 35km of piste are never crowded. The ski area's unique va-et-vient lifts, which carry small groups of skiers up steep couloirs that no conventional lift could serve, give access to some of the most challenging and memorable runs in South America. The all-inclusive hotel model simplifies trip planning considerably for US visitors, and the resort's northern Andean position means it consistently receives deep, dry snow through the June to October season.
