About Ruka

Ruka is one of Finland's leading ski resorts, a compact fell at 492m in the Northern Ostrobothnia region just below the Arctic Circle, with a six-month ski season running from October to May that is among the longest in Europe at any altitude. The skiing is modest by Alpine standards — 34km of piste on a fell rather than a mountain — but Ruka is genuinely transformative as an Arctic experience: the Northern Lights are visible on clear nights from November through March, reindeer herding is part of the local Sámi and Finnish cultural fabric, and the combination of cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobile safaris creates a wilderness experience impossible to replicate in the Alps. Just 30 minutes from Kuusamo airport, it is among the most easily accessible Arctic destinations in Europe.
