About Snowbird

Snowbird is Alta's neighbour at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon and arguably its equal in difficulty and snow quality, receiving the same extraordinary Wasatch snowfall — often over 500 inches of light, dry powder per season — but serving both skiers and snowboarders across 3,240 acres of predominantly challenging terrain. The resort is defined by its aerial tram, which rises 2,900 vertical feet to the 11,000-foot Hidden Peak summit in under nine minutes, accessing the steep Cirque and Peruvian Gulch faces that have made Snowbird a pilgrimage destination for expert skiers. Its season, which regularly extends to late May and occasionally June, is among the longest of any natural-snow resort in the United States, a product of the sheer depth of snowpack that accumulates in the canyon through winter. The resort's infrastructure is functional and utilitarian rather than charming, but that suits its skier-focused clientele perfectly.
