About Stubai Glacier
Stubai Glacier is Austria's largest glacier ski area and one of the most accessible high-altitude resorts in the Alps — just 45 minutes from Innsbruck airport, making it one of the easiest glacier destinations to reach from a major international hub. The resort's 65km of piste ranges from the Eisgrat base station at 2,300m to the Schaufelspitze summit at 3,210m, with a season that stretches from October through June thanks to the altitude and glacier coverage. The terrain is a well-balanced mix of wide, confidence-building blues on the glacier plateau — excellent for intermediates and early-season training — and steeper runs including the challenging 10km valley descent to Mutterberg. The BIG Family ski area, with its animal-themed runs and gentle conveyor lifts, is one of the best children's facilities in Austria. The Stubai also boasts one of the country's best terrain parks, the Stubai Zoo, which hosts World Cup freestyle events. For US skiers planning a Tyrol trip, Stubai Glacier works brilliantly as a day trip from Innsbruck or as a dedicated base: the Stubaital valley below offers authentic Tyrolean villages, excellent hiking, and significantly lower prices than the more famous Arlberg or Zillertal resorts.
