About Taos Ski Valley

Taos Ski Valley is one of the most demanding and idiosyncratic ski resorts in North America, tucked into a narrow canyon in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of northern New Mexico at a base elevation of 9,207 feet — higher than the summit of many eastern resorts. Its 110 trails are steeply skewed toward expert terrain: roughly 51% of the mountain is rated advanced or expert, including the legendary Al's Run directly beneath the main lift, the Highline Ridge chutes, and Kachina Peak's double-black terrain above 12,481 feet. The resort's dry, high-desert snowpack combines the light powder of the Rockies with exceptional cold storage, and the small, intimate village at its base retains a counter-culture, old-school mountain character — no flashy resort development, no chain restaurants — that its devoted regular clientele guard fiercely.
