About Treble Cone
Treble Cone is New Zealand's largest ski area by skiable terrain and the country's most compelling destination for advanced and expert skiers, a dramatic mountain above Lake Wanaka in the Mount Aspiring National Park that drops 700 vertical metres of serious terrain across 550 hectares of diverse ski area. Its five lifts access a terrain mix that is deliberately skewed towards intermediate and advanced skiing — approximately 45% black diamond terrain by New Zealand classification — with the Home Basin providing excellent groomed cruising, the Saddle Basin and Motatapu Chutes delivering genuinely challenging steep skiing, and the female-only and open sessions on specific terrain sectors that have given Treble Cone a progressive, inclusive culture within the expert skiing community. Wanaka, the nearest town 18km from the base, is widely considered New Zealand's most appealing ski base: a lakeside settlement with exceptional restaurants, boutique accommodation, and a relaxed atmosphere that provides a marked contrast to Queenstown's busier tourist infrastructure. Treble Cone's combination of serious terrain, spectacular Southern Alps scenery, and Wanaka's lifestyle makes it the natural first choice for expert US skiers choosing New Zealand as a southern hemisphere summer skiing destination.
