About Uludağ Ski Resort
Uludağ is Turkey's most famous and most visited ski resort, a gondola-accessed mountain above the city of Bursa that has served as the winter playground of Istanbul's prosperous middle class since the 1930s and has developed into a substantial resort with 25km of groomed terrain, 16 lifts, and a dense cluster of hotels and restaurants at the summit plateau that operates on a scale uncommon for a mountain of just 2,543m. The ski area's terrain suits beginners and early intermediates well, with wide, gently pitched runs on the upper plateau and a ski school infrastructure accustomed to teaching Turkish first-timers who arrive with enthusiasm but little prior snow experience; expert skiers will find the terrain limited but the snow, when the Marmara weather system delivers genuinely cold temperatures, can be surprisingly good. Uludağ's primary appeal for US visitors is less the skiing than the cultural experience: the mountain sits within one of the world's few remaining intact Silk Road trading cities — Bursa's Grand Bazaar, the Green Mosque, the İpek Yolu silk market, and the traditional bath culture of the hamam are accessible within 30 minutes of the ski area and provide the kind of historical immersion that no European resort can replicate.
