About Popova Shapka
Popova Shapka is North Macedonia's primary ski resort, a small but well-positioned area on the slopes of the Šar Mountains just 30 minutes from Skopje — making it one of the most accessible capital-city ski resorts in Europe. Its 30km of piste at altitudes between 1,700m and 2,500m are predominantly intermediate in character, with good natural snow cover from the Šar Mountains' position in the path of cold continental air masses that sweep down from the north-east. The resort remains largely undiscovered by international ski tourists, which means quiet slopes, friendly locals, and prices that rival Bulgaria for value; the infrastructure is more basic than Western European standards but functional and improving.
