About Thredbo Alpine Village
Thredbo is Australia's premium ski destination, a purpose-built alpine village in Kosciuszko National Park in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales that sits at the base of the country's longest ski run — the 5.9km Merritts trail from the summit of Mount Kosciuszko, Australia's highest peak at 2,228m. Its 53km of piste are the most varied in the country, with a genuine mix of groomed blue and red runs, steep black mogul fields, and tree skiing in the Cruiser area that challenges advanced skiers in a way that few Australian resorts can match. The village itself has a distinct alpine character inherited from its founding by Austrian immigrants in the 1950s, with hotel accommodation, good restaurants, and a lively après-ski scene centred on the main village plaza. Australian snowfall is unreliable and the season window is comparatively short, but Thredbo's snowmaking investment and high altitude give it the best natural snow coverage in the country.
