About Steamboat Springs

Steamboat Springs is the home of "Champagne Powder" — a trademarked term the resort coined for its famously light, dry Colorado snow — and has built its identity around a western ranching heritage that distinguishes it from the more polished resort towns of Summit County and Aspen. The 3,000-plus acres on Mount Werner are predominantly intermediate-friendly, with long cruising runs on the main face and the distinctive glade skiing through mature aspen stands that the resort's tree-skiing reputation is built on. The old town of Steamboat Springs, seven minutes from the ski area by free bus, is an authentic working western town rather than a purpose-built resort community — a characteristic that gives the destination a groundedness and local character that ski purists tend to appreciate.
